Many years experience and continual development make Selecta products unique. Selecta place a special value on natural materials such as wood. However, in order to be able to offer the best possible functions and something new to explore, we are prepared to go in new directions.

Tradition
Selecta Spielzeug AG looks back on a long tradition. In 1968 Tilmann Foertsch and Guenther Menzel grounded the company with the aim to provide high value, specially chosen toys which promote the development of children. The natural raw material wood is especially suitable for this.

The name of the company mirrors the company philosophy: "Selecta" is from the Latin and means something similar to "the chosen".

Selecta Today
Selecta Spielzeug AG has their principal office in Edling, near Wasserburg am Inn in Bavaria, Germany. Out in the country with a wonderful view of the Bavarian alps, the Selecta employees work meticulously on new innovative and high value toys and games.

Made in Germany
Selecta toys and games are predominantly produced in Germany. In their own production in Kirchseeon, modern techniques and traditions come together with the know-how collected over many years of working with wood. The high value Selecta products originate from here with the love of detail which offers your child so much fun.

Transfer Printing
Have you noticed that the illustrations on Selecta wooden slabs have particularly brilliant colors? This special printing procedure has been used by Selecta for over 20 years. Since then, the procedure has been continually developed in order to guarantee you and your children the special color brilliance and robust long life fun.

Safety
Selecta toys conform to the highest European and international safety standards and this gives a feeling of security. Our products are tested for safety according to the European Norm EN71. Further testing by the German Tuv Sud is also carried out according to statutory guidelines and a positive result is rewarded with the "GS" label (geprufte Sicherheit/ tested for safety).

Over and above this, a large number of our products are tested according to the US-Norm ASTM which is often much stricter.

Educationally valuable
Selecta began to produce wooden toys for nursery schools over 38 years ago. Names such as Fröbel and Maria Montessori have been our role-models.

From the first idea until their realization, Selecta toys are subjected to many tests. These tests are carried out together with the assistance and advice of experienced teachers, in families, nursery schools and playgroups. We procure the recommendations of teachers and parents before completing the development of a new Selecta toy. The focus during the development of Selecta toys and games is placed on high value playtime. Our products have very high expectations in order to animate the children into playing independently.

We can also look back on a long tradition of producing toys for toddlers; we consider and use all the knowledge we have collected in this time in the development of each toy.

Quality Requirements
Selecta Quality is an expression of the experience we have collected following many years of development and production. Further, Selecta have developed their own standards of quality and built in extra controls in order that only safe toys come into the hands of our children.

The Material Wood
Wood is a natural, growing and living raw material whose warm surface imparts everything necessary to the sensual development of small children.

Wooden structures fire the imagination and impart a variety of impressions according to which sense is appealed to. Selecta's toddler toys receive a supplementary finish with beeswax, making the surfaces silky soft. This natural aroma stimulates the development of the children´s senses.

Selecta products are predominently made from endemic woods. These are preferably hard woods such as maple because long life usage is then guaranteed. In order to maintain the ecological system of the forest, we are committed to sustainable forest management.

Surface Treatments: Varnish and Beeswax
Since wood is a natural material, you don´t have to worry if your children put it into their mouths. Only environmentally friendly colours and varnishes, which emphasize and enhance the unique natural beauty of the different woods and which are completely safe, are used for toys from Selecta.

We were one of the first manufacturers to to improve the surfaces of our baby toys with beeswax.This gives Selecta toys a soft, velvety seal which allows the warm golden tones of the wood to shine through and the natural aroma appeals to and helps develop the senses of the children.

We use a special heat transfer printing process to print colourful illustrations onto wood. We acchieve a particular colour brilliance with this process and a robust surface which is also scratch and saliva resistant and washable. The colours stay bright over many years of intensive use.
